Why is Beef Jerky so Expensive?

Why is Beef Jerky so Expensive?

We hear it all the time!  How can that little bag of dried meat be so expensive?  Watch this video and then let us explain…

At Smoking Gun Jerky of Nebraska, we use only top quality meats.  Top Round beef roasts are our go-to cut, and we source only the BEST  Midwest Beef in our processing.  You won’t find excessive fat in these roasts, but the marbling in our beef gives it the best flavor and texture. (Lean beef is also more expensive!) Since beef is made up of 60% water, the drying process reduces our finished product to less than half of the original weight.  Thus, when we start with  10 pounds of meat, we end up with less than 5 pounds of finished jerky.

Another fact that contributes to the cost, is the labor intensiveness of making jerky “by hand”.  We don’t use conveyor belts, machines or automation for our product.!  Every bag of jerky is mixed, loaded onto trays, and bagged by a real person! This small batch process takes far more time and labor than large production in factories. If you asked us “who makes the jerky back there”, we can easily say it was Nicole, Mason, Ben and or Rian. We dare you to ask Trapper Keeper or Mack Jinx who made their jerky last year…   It is also more precise and quality controlled.  Our customers agree that our jerky is some of the BEST beef jerky they have ever tried.  Many say it tastes just like what can be made at home; maybe even better!

Our jerky does not contain any additives or fillers.  We use only premium meat, our own in-house marinade recipes and no preservatives, nitrates or nitrites.  Top sellers like our Applewood, Wicked Awesome, Black Pepper and Garlic, and Maple Brown Sugar are all small batch recipes we create in our own kitchen.

While there are cheaper options available in convenience stores and other major big box outlets, there is no comparison to the quality, nutrition and flavor that you will find in Smoking Gun Jerky of Nebraska’s FRESH, made-by-hand products.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zqym3byccOg
